Friday, July 10, 2020 – 6:30 p.m. (Weekly Update #2)

Dear Families of Frankfort CUSD #168:

Good evening as we offer this post and update of our planning for the 2020-2021 school year.  Administrators, faculty, and staff have been meeting and working through all of our
options and challenges that we face as we prepare to educate the students of our community.
We are reviewing everything from a full return to in-person learning to remote learning to some
kind of blended process that may fall in the middle.  Among the topics we are working on include instruction, student services, transportation, food services, extra and co-curricular activities,
personnel and human resources, operations and maintenance, and family and community
engagement.

Our goal is to have a plan released out to everyone in our District by Friday, July 24.  We know
that a lot of things continue to change day to day, but we think by that point we will have a better idea of conditions in the community and in the region so we can make a more informed decision.

To meet this goal, WE NEED YOUR HELP.  We need to gather some information from you,
our families, to help us plan and make the best decision that we can for all involved.
Beginning tonight and running through 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, we are opening
a survey link at https://forms.gle/aZafqWmRxwh4WD5d7.  This survey will ask for your email address,
but that is only so that we make sure we are getting our families’ responses in the survey.  At your earliest
convenience, please log in and take the survey for your family.  IF you cannot complete the survey
electronically, feel free to stop by our District’s Office at 900 North Cherry Street for a paper copy.
Again, the survey deadline is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15.

Then, I want to return to a couple of questions and items that we mentioned last time.

When Will School Start and What Will the Calendar Look Like?

Tuesday, August 11, 2020         Teachers’ Institute Day (No Student Attendance)

Wednesday, August 12, 2020    Remote Learning Planning Day (No Student Attendance)

Thursday, August 13, 2020       Remote Learning Planning Day (No Student Attendance)

Friday, August 14, 2020            Half-Day In-Service – Students will attend a half day (our traditional
start)

Once we start with student attendance on Friday, August 14, it is our intention to run the
calendar that we have.  That calendar is posted on our website.  Any other changes to the
scheduled calendar will be handled as events dictate.

How Often Will We Be Updated on the Planning Progress?

We plan to post information after 4 p.m. on Friday afternoons throughout the month of July.

When Can We Expect a More Finalized Plan to Be Announced?

We plan to post a finalized plan on information on Friday, July 24, 2020.

Enjoy your weekend and please stay safe.  Until next week . . . .

Sincerely,

Matt Donkin

Superintendent of Schools

Tuesday, June 30, 2020 – 7:30 p.m.

Dear Families of Frankfort CUSD #168:

As we said last week, we offer this post as an update as we contemplate a return to school
and to in-person learning for students in Frankfort CUSD #168.  We know that our
circumstances will continue to change between now and the start of school in mid-August.
This is a report of where things stand as of today.

When Will School Start and What Will the Calendar Look Like?

˗          I have one adjustment to make from what we announced last week.  To give us
time to plan and be trained on all of the different possibilities and protocols that may
occur during this school year, we are pushing the first day for students back to the end
of the week.  That means the schedule will be:

Tuesday, August 11, 2020         Teachers’ Institute Day (No Student Attendance)

Wednesday, August 12, 2020    Remote Learning Planning Day (No Student Attendance)

Thursday, August 13, 2020       Remote Learning Planning Day (No Student Attendance)

Friday, August 14, 2020            Half-Day In-Service – Students will attend a half day
 (our traditional start)

˗          Once we start with student attendance on Friday, August 14, it is our intention to
run the calendar that we have.  I will have this calendar posted on our website by Wednesday evening.  Any other changes to the scheduled calendar will be handled as events dictate.

How Is the District Planning for the Return to In-Person Learning?

˗          The District began meetings this week with the participation of building administrators, faculty, teachers’ aides, cooks, custodians, and secretaries.  We will also have building-
level groups for planning for the more specialized needs of each age group.  As we develop plans, we will pass those along to everyone keeping in mind that some things will remain fluid up to the start of school.  We will give you as much time to prepare your students as
we can.

How Often Will We Be Updated?

˗          We plan to post information after 4 p.m. on Friday afternoons throughout the
month of July.

What is the Status of Athletics and Activities?

˗          We are still operating under the Stage 1 “Return to Play” plan that was approved
by the Frankfort CUSD #168 Board of Education and Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health.  We are still waiting for guidance from the IHSA which needs to match guidance
from the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Department of Public Health.
That hasn’t happened yet, so we remain with the plan at Stage 1 for now.  We will
announce any changes as soon as we can.  Stage 1 guidelines are posted on our website.
